Twitch Con and beyond

This year and for the first time, I got the opportunity to go to the Twitch Con and meet up with the great minds and influencers who are shaping the next big things in streaming. The event was overwhelmingly oversubscribed, and it showed the growing attention it’s getting from the public. Almost half of the visitors were Twitch affiliates streamers, and many cosplayers and artists were showing off their work around.
Over the weekend, Twitch unveiled two exciting features for us at Gimbl: Chat moderators badges/role management and Squad Stream. The former is something we’ve been discussing a lot internally and is a move forward more clarity and more flexibility for streamers to manage the ones who are willing to help to moderate their stream chat and more. At Gimbl, we’re building a decentralized way of moderating bets, and it’s precisely the way we see things: with preferred moderators, they will be able to resolve bets with fewer mistakes. You will hear more about that soon when we start our UXR campaigns.
The second and most important to us is Squad Stream. Justin Lin, Twitch COO got to discuss it in a live episode of Dropped Frames on stage: “we’re trying to recreate the social experience of playing with your friends in a living room.” It is precisely what our goal at Gimli is and has been since the beginning. Today’s approach to online live video gaming is missing that critical social link. When you play Fifa with friends, playing comes first, but interactions with people around you are at least as important. Most of the time indeed you’re only watching your friends play. And then you take sides, and eventually, bet or challenge them.
Having the opportunity to use Squad Stream to bundle up to 4 live streams together is a significant step to help our users bet and interact with more information about what’s going on, especially for team games. We’re currently thinking on how to integrate it into the product.

TwitchCon also hosted the Doritos Bowl Shroud win against Ninja, CouRage and DrLupo’s teams playing CoD, it was a pretty epic battle to watch, and I would have lost my bet for Ninja for sure. I hope you got the chance to watch the live stream as well!

Stay Tuned and GG.
